Please write to us with a memory of a piece of furniture from your childhood home… as well as your child's early experiences with his/her new piece!

“My Pop-Pop always had his own chair in the kitchen. No one else could sit there; it was the helm of the household. My 1st memorable chair was my Pop-Pop's knee. When he sat me on his knee while he was in his chair, I felt like a queen!” — Lisa Albin, Brooklyn, NY. Mom of Anya, (7) + Ellie, (4)

“Every weekday at 5pm, when I was five or six or seven, I would sit down in my little straw chair to watch Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood… with my little table, a scrambled egg sandwich on toast and a glass of chocolate milk. It's a delicious memory for me, and as much as Mr. Rogers and the scrambled egg sandwich and the chocolate milk help to make it so, the table and chair seem equally a part of it and of the feeling I had.” — Andy Postman, Brooklyn, NY. Dad of Sam (8), Charlie (6), Nell (1)

“My parents put a Childcraft wooden slide and jungle gym in my room, and had a loft bed built. I remember the carpenter sawing out stacked ovals in the plywood for me to use to climb to my bed, and underneath building a desk and closet that doubled as a secret hideout. I was an active kid, as comfortable upside-down as right-side-up, and I like the idea that they saw my bedroom as a place for me to get my ya-yas out--to jump, climb, swing, hang, and slide--not just to sleep.” — Alex Postman, Brooklyn, NY. Mom of Sam (8), Charlie (6), Nell (1)

“We played "Houdini" with the sofa bed. We would fold each other up and then get the parent to come sit on the couch and act surprised as we emerged. The earliest I remember is the bunk bed I shared with my sister. We talked as we went to bed and I remember we had the same dreams with ships in them. I think the bunk bed was the ship.” — Gabriel Kroiz, Baltimore, MD. Dad of Gerson (6), Sascha (4)
